PROVOKE Solutions, a digital product development company with offices in both the United States and New Zealand, works with major tech companies worldwide on digital strategy, experience design, workplace modernization, and more.
The Challenge
With a major software company based in Redmond, WA, as one of their main clients, PROVOKE is often tasked with producing 3-5 minute videos highlighting product announcements, demos, new features, or other upcoming news. The videos are highly visible and seen by thousands of viewers as they’re hosted on the company’s website and YouTube channel or featured during product showcases and industry events.
Traditionally, the company assembled the script and the video simultaneously and recorded the voiceover after the fact. However, they often ran into pacing problems and would “almost always” have to re-record the voiceover.
“You can get the script as perfect as you like,” said Tim Harris, Design Manager on the Experience Design Team, “But there will always be edits once you get a voiceover on it – or when product names and features change last minute– and it can be a real pain.”
Because the team works on a tight timeline, often developing videos 1-2 weeks before release, they needed a way to tighten their workflow.
The Solution
After previously using a competing AI Voice tool to pace out their scripts, the team found it wasn’t working as they’d hoped and decided to give WellSaid a try. They immediately found the interface easy to use and efficient and were pleasantly surprised that it “worked so well.”
Additionally, design consultant Sandee Hjorth noted that she “really enjoys the wide range of accents and voices available [to the team].”
The Result
As a result, PROVOKE has been using WellSaid to help “set the scene” for its videos and has seen a 25% decrease in production time. In one go, the team can pull together the video, ensure the script sounds natural, and confirm the narration is properly timed, all without interrupting the process of recording a voiceover.
While the client ultimately prefers to use their branded voice for the final product, PROVOKE has noted that WellSaid voices achieve such a high-quality human parity that they would love to see them used in the finished videos eventually.
Conclusion
When it comes to overall impact, the team noted that utilizing WellSaid has helped them deliver a snappy, sharp, and engaging final product, and their major tech client has been very happy with the results.
“We have plans to promote using WellSaid to our clients more within the near future to allow for more flexibility with editing as opposed to recutting voiceovers several times,” said Tim. “It has been a really great tool for that.”
